Bring on Karaka 2019!

Haunui Farm will offer 56 yearlings across the three books at Karaka 2019 and as always there is a horse for all budgets. We need not remind you of the fact that your next Champion, is not necessarily going to break the bank. We only need to reflect on our black type graduates over the past few seasons to be reminded of that fact.

2017 Karaka Million-winner and subsequent multiple G1 winner MELODY BELLE (NZ) (Commands) is a prime example. A Book 1 filly, she walked out of the sale ring with a $57,500 price tag. She proved herself the best of her generation at two, and as a four-year-old, has gone to another level.

Multiple stakes winner CELEBRITY DREAM (NZ) (Thorn Park) commanded a $260,000 price tag at Karaka 2014. As a member of the Haunui foundation family, her 4 wins at stakes level would see her current market value at more than three-times that level.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, 2019 G2 Royal Stakes winner IMELDA MARY (NZ) (Ferlax) is a prime example of how price doesn’t determine success. A $3,500 purchase out of Haunui’s then Festival draft from the first crop of FERLAX (NZ) (Pentire), she contested the 2018 Karaka Million, ran 5^th in the G1 1000 Guineas in November and on New Year’s Day became FERLAX’s first stakes winner with a commanding victory. On the eve of Karaka 2019, she’ll contest the Karaka Million 3YO Mile.

Another Book 3 graduate, APPELLANT (NZ) (Showcasing) will take her place in this year’s Karaka Million 2YO field, looking to continue the success of her sire who has had a runner in the race from each eligible crop so far.
