Potential West Australian top-liner Showmanship (NZ) (Showcasing) kept his near perfect record in tact when winning the Amelia Park Handicap (1400m) in comfortable fashion at Belmont on Saturday, his fifth win from six stars.

Prepared by Grant and Alana Williams for prominent owner Bob Peters, Showmanship travelled like the winner throughout and sailed to a two and a half length victory under William Pike.

The Showcasing four-year-old got further back than expected but appreciated the solid tempo.

“We had a discussion before the race and William thought he would be a little bit closer but he ran well,” Peters said.

Showmanship is one of a trio of Peters-owned horses being spruiked as possible A$15 million Everest (1200m) prospects, along with stablemates Superstorm and Windstorm.

“I just wanted to see how far he would get for us and then start making some plans. That will sort out the level that we look at.

“There has been a little bit of enquiry about possible big races in Sydney, so we will have to look at the calendar and see what we can do, but with the way travel is these days, it’s not as easy as it should be.”

With domestic equine travel by plane in doubt due to COVID-19, Western Australian gallopers are likely to have to freight by road if they want to race in the Eastern States.

A son of Don Eduardo mare Khales, Showmanship is the younger half-brother of Singapore Gold Cup (2200m) winner Bahana.

Bred by Haunui Bloodstock, Showmanship was a $145,000 purchase by bloodstock agent John Chalmers from Haunui’s 2017 Select Yearling Sale draft at Karaka.
