Haunui Stallions Generate Solid Returns

Karaka 2018 is well and truly complete and our planning for the 2019 rendition is already underway with post yearling sale inspections of our 2017 foal crop already completed.

Whilst it was an extremely successful week of selling for Haunui and our clients – 21 six-figure yearlings out of 38 sold, 3rd on aggregate and 3rd on average – one of the most pleasing aspects of the sale was the demand for yearlings by our sires Iffraaj (GB) (Zafonic) and Showcasing (GB) (Oasis Dream).

In 2015, Iffraaj and Showcasing stood for service fees of $15,000 and $10,000 respectively. Since then, both stallions have enjoyed considerable success and as a result, there was strong competition between buyers to secure their progeny at Karaka last week.

With 32 yearlings selling through the sale ring last week, Iffraaj ended Book 1 with an average of $136,667 and a top price of $360,000 for the full-sister to multiple Group One winner, Turn Me Loose bred and sold by George and Maryanne Simon of Mana Park. Iffraaj’s sale average for the week almost hit six figures at $99,531.

Showcasing had 27 yearlings sell through the ring with a Book 1 average of $138,222 and a top price of $250,000 paid by John Chalmers for Jameson Park’s full sister to G1 performer, Raghu. With 11 six-figure yearlings selling throughout the week, Showcasing ended the sale with an average of $86,535.

Haunui Farm’s Mark Chitty comments, “When we are setting our service fees we are continually talking about returns to breeders and off the back of those results, we couldn’t be happier with the way that Iffraaj and Showcasing performed in the sale ring at Karaka. Off service fees of $15,000 and $10,000, their sale averages saw a solid return and whilst some of those were pin-hook results, a majority went to the breeders, the people who have supported our stallions year in and year out.”
