Haunui Graduate Karaka Million Bound

Two-year-old filly Appellant (NZ) (Showcasing) will continue the run of Haunui Farm graduates lining up in the Karaka million having cemented her place in the restricted field with an impressive win at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

Facing the starter for just the third time, some raceday experience proved to be the key for the Stephen Marsh-trained filly as she loomed up on stablemate Chiaretta (NZ) (Makfi) in the final furlong however, "the Ellerslie" effect, as rider Samantha Collett described it, took hold with the filly a little green in the run to the line but she got the job done nicely with just under a length to spare.  Watch the race by clicking here.

Bred by long standing Haunui Farm clients Don and Dame Wendy Pye, Appellant was presented at Karaka 2018 and was sold for $30,000 in the ring with the Pye's retaining ownership of the filly and forming a partnership including Haunui Bloodstock and, a number of Hong Kong-based friends.

In looking through the record books, Haunui Farm and Haunui stallions Iffraaj, Showcasing and Elusive City have played a strong hand in the Karaka Million in recent years with a graduate or, progeny of a Haunui stallion lining up every year since 2012.  This record includes two victories for Haunui Graduates, and three wins for 2YO's by a Haunui stallion.
