We are well and truly into spring and the first crop of Champion 2YO and dual G1 winner Belardo (Ire) (Lope De Vega) are continuing to create an impression. The proof is in the pudding so, click here to view a number of his 2018 crop of foals for yourself.

With over 100 mares booked to Belardo this season, he is set to serve more mares in his second season than his first, bucking the general trend for second season sires and proving once again that time is a wonderful thing in our industry.

Belardo’s sire Lope De Vega (Ire) (Shamardal) has had a huge 12 months globally but most importantly in our major export market, Australia. Multiple G1 winners Santa Ana Lane and Vega Magic loom large as leading contenders for the A$13 million, The Everest in two weeks’ time and are among 14 stakes performers for Lope De Vega in Australasia over the last year.

Belardo’s first crop foals in both hemisphere’s have created an impression and, New Zealand breeders have recognised Belardo’s quality as a racehorse, the fact that he represents a sire line that is firing all over the world and, the opportunity that he presents at exceptional value.

“We have had wonderful success at Haunui with European stallions,” says Managing Director, Mark Chitty. “Elusive City, Iffraaj and Showcasing are prime examples. We firmly believe in our stallion criteria and Belardo is undoubtedly the best performed race horse we have stood in recent times.”

Belardo stands at Haunui Farm in 2018 for a fee of $12,000 + GST. His book is limited to 120 mares.
