Group One Winners


Group One winners to have been bred, reared or sold by Haunui Farm in the last ten years include:

ZABRASIVE (NZ) (Zabeel - Danasia by Danehill)
Bred by Don and Rochelle McLaren, Zabrasive provided the McLaren's with one of thier biggest thrills in racing when winning the G1 STC Rosehill Guineas.  Initially passed in at the 2008 Karaka Premier Sale, trainer John O'Shea convinced one of his clients to purchase Zabrasive after initially selecting him at a yearling parade the December before.  The rest as they say, is history with Zabrasive now in preparation for a tilt at the 2010 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

JUNGLE ROCKET (NZ) (Jungle Pocket - Gu Li by Last Tycoon)
Sold as a weanling by Haunui Farm in 2006, Jungle Rocket was purchased by NZB's John Cameron for Australian-based clients David and Cynthia Pleasance and Craig and Louise Betts.  The same partnership also went on to purchase her dam Gu Li later that year.  Jungle Rocket won the 2009 G1 New Zealand Oaks.

MISSION CRITICAL (Aus) (Fantastic Light - Trick Taker by Capote)
Sold by Haunui Farm at Karaka 2006 on behalf of Darley Australia, Mission Critical was purchased by Paul Moroney for $75,000.  Unlucky in both the G2 Avondale Guineas and the G2 Great Northern Guineas, Mission Critical made light work of his older rivals winning the G1 Waikato International Stakes as a three-year-old

GALLIC (NZ) (Zabeel - Gesine by Nassiapour)
The winner of the G1 Syndey Cup last season, Gallic was purchased by the Lloyd Williams team from our 2001 Karaka Premier draft for $170,000. Bred by Paul and Mary Kenny and Charlie Roberts under their Roberts Holdings banner, Gallic is also the winner of the G2 Moonee Valley Cup, the G2 Adelaide Cup and, the Listed Bendigo Cup - twice. A horse who earned his G1 victory after returning to the track from serious injuries, Gallic was retired in November of 2007 after yet another injury curtailed his chance of racing in the Melbourne Cup.

MIKKI STREET (NZ) (Cape Cross - Ocean Pearl by Crested Wave)
Sold from our 2003 yearling draft, Mikki Street was purchased by Lisa Latta for $61,000. The winner of the G3 Winter Cup, he was the convincing winner of the G1 Zabeel Classic on Boxing Day 2006.

 ART SUCCESS (NZ) (Pentire - Zabelette by Zabeel)
Winner of the G1 Brisbane Cup (3200m) 2006

RAILINGS (AUS) (Zabeel - La Suffragette by Palace Music)
Dual Group One winner in 2005 of the Caulfield Cup and The Metropolitan. Placed 3rd in the G1 AJC Derby at three. Bred by Haunui Farm and Noel Robinson. Sold at the 2003 NZB Premier Sale to Roger James for $300,000.

PERLIN (NZ) (Carnegie - Midnight Madam by Kaapstad)
Dual G1 winner and multiple Group winner. Winner of the G1 BTC Doomben Cup (2200m) and the G1 Underwood Stakes (1800m). Bred by Haunui and Bill Hurlstone, Perlin was sold at the 2001 NZB Premier Sale for $85,000.

 PIACHAY (NZ) (Danasinga - Pleasure by Nassipour)
Winner of the G1 Brisbane Cup (3200m) and winner of multiple Group races. Bred by Don and Rochelle McLaren, sold by Haunui Farm at the 1999 NZB Premier Sale for $100,000, purchased by Belmont Bloodstock.

 

 

  

 

 

GROUP ONE PERFORMERS

Listed below are some of the G1 performers that have been bred, reared or sold by Haunui over the last decade.

OCTAPUSSY (NZ) (Octagonal - Dopff by Tights)
Multiple stakes performer. Second in the 2006 BTC Doomben Cup. Sold by Haunui at the 2001 Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Purchased by Peter Walker for $100,000.

PENITENTIARY (NZ) (Pentire - Strangeways by Veloso)
Stakes winner and multiple group performer. Placed in the G1 Thorndon Mile and the G1 Otaki-Maori WFA Stakes. Bred by Val Langsford. Sold by Haunui Farm at the 2002 NZB Select Sale for $10,000. Purchased by Paul Willets.

TSARINA BELLE (NZ) (Stravinksy - Empress Belle by Sir Tristram)
Multiple stakes performer. Third in the G1 New Zealand Bloodstock 1000 Guineas. Bred and raced by Marie Leicester.

EBONY HONOR (NZ) (Honor Grades - Only Love by Wollow)
Placed at G1 level on eight occassions with a further three 4th placings at G1 level. His G1 placings include a second and two thirds in the Auckland Cup, two seconds and a third in the Wellington Cup and, two thirds in the Avondale Gold Cup. His fourths were in the Mercedes Derby, South Australian Derby, and Wellington Cup. Bred by Haunui Farm, Ebony Honor was sold by Haunui at the 1998 Select Sale. He was purchased by Trevor McKee for $48,000.

JETSKI (NZ) (Jetball - Making Waves by Bakharoff)
Placed in the G1 ARC Easter Handicap - twice. Bred by Don and Rochelle McLaren, Jetski was sold by Haunui at the 1999 Select Sale where he was purchased by Donna Logan for $12,000.

KATANA (NZ) (Volksraad - Tristean by Sir Tristram)
Placed second in the G1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes, Katana is also a winner in the USA. Bred by Roberts Holdings, she was sold by Haunui at the 2002 Select Sale for $52,500. She was purchased by Paul Moroney.

HOMEWRECKER (NZ) (Housbuster - Major Affair by Tights)
G1 placed on three occassions, Homewrecker finished second in the G1 Adelaide Cup, third in the G1 Brisbane Cup and also third in the G1 The Metropolitan. He was bred by Dennis Clout and sold by Haunui Farm at the 1999 NZB Premier Sale where he was purchaed by Ray Lawson for $65,000.
 
SIR CLIVE (NZ) (Bigstone - Ascendo by Conquistarose)
Multiple stakes performer. Placed second in the G1 Mercedes Derby, G1 AJC Derby and G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas and, third in the G1 Levin Bayer Classic.
